Open house tour features two 'green' homes

Derry News

---- — DERRY — There will be a neighborhood-wide open house Sunday at Running Brook Farm, a development in which six of 15 lots have been developed.

Benno IJtsma, president of the Home Owners Association and Running Brook resident, said the Open House, the neighborhood’s first since breaking ground in 2009, will give the community a chance to tout the development’s myriad beauties and benefits.

“We’ve coordinated with the home owners to allow visitors to tour public spaces of some of the homes, and to get a general feel for the neighborhood and what’s unique about this community,” IJtsma said.

In particular, IJtsma was eager to tout Running Brook’s unique use of – and respect for – the surrounding conservation land.

“We’re trying to build the houses with nature and preservation in mind,” IJtsma said. “That means not cutting down trees to the point that you feel like your house is in the middle of a football field and have to plant new trees to make it look better.”

While the Open House will feature models and plans from a variety of regional builders, none tout the green bells and whistles – and accolades – of the two most recent custom homes built by Ridgeview Construction.

The company will conduct walk-through tours of its homes.

“By having all or most of the homes open for tours, the idea is to impart the sense of community that people in Running Brook Farm enjoy,” sales manager Matt Silva said. “That’s not something you’re going to get in your run-of-the-mill development.”

Silva specifically cited Running Brook Farm’s open spaces and central trail system – which spans more than a mile – as two of the neighborhood’s most unique binding ties.

The open house will take place on Stone Fence Drive from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
