Drinkery owners hope to open new site in Derry

The Drinkery, a craft beer and wine cellar located in Londonderry, lacks funding for an expansion in Derry

The plans to open up Cask and Vine, a new wine cellar and eatery in Derry are not bottoms up, but they do need more funding in order to make the business float.

Cask and Vine would be an extension of The Drinkery, located at 2 Young Road in Londonderry, right underneath Tulepo Music Hall.

Only five days remain of Cask and Vine’s kickstarter donation program. Kickstarter is a website where people are allowed to create funds to help them raise money for various projects, whether it be an artist looking for supplies or a small wine cellar looking to expand.

So far, co-owners Andy Day and Alana Wentworth have raised around $3,000. That’s well short of their $25,000 goal.

“We have recognized that Derry is looking to improve their downtown area,” Day said. “There are plenty of florists and hair salons, but no real place to sit outside and enjoy fine wine, craft beer and food.”

The couple has raised $40,000 total of their original goal, but their kickstarter, launched on July 15, has just a few days left.

Even if the donation fund does not meet the additional $22,000 by Aug. 14, the owners still are optimistic they will find money for their new location, 125 E. Broadway.

“If we have to, we’ll wait a few more years and see what grants we can access,” Day said. “I’m confident there is something else that could help us.”

Those who did donate or plan to donate will have their names recognized within Cask and Vine. Names will be inscribed on bricks and on the backs of chairs.

“We have had some real faithful customers at The Drinkery, which is what really pushed us along,” Wentworth said. “Our customers can’t sit and relax within The Drinkery itself.”

Currently, The Drinkery has more than 400 different beers and 175 different types of wine. Cask and Vine would have a rotating menu throughout the year.
