DERRY — Panera Bread brought a boost to the town's economic development plans for Route 28 — and to residents' lunchtime choices — when it opened Friday at Pinkerton Place at 17 Manchester Road.
The plaza already was home to the Woof Meow Family Pet Center and a brand-new Goodwill store. A super Wal-Mart store is under construction nearby.
PR Restaurants operates 31 franchise Panera Bread locations throughout New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Maine. Mitchell Roberts and David Peterman are the co-owners of PR Restaurants. Panera Bread Company owns and franchises 1,541 bakery-cafes.
Peterman said earlier the business wants to be a good community partner and would join with the Greater Derry Boys and Girls Club on local projects through Operation Dough-Nation.
At the end of each business day, Panera Bread donates all unsold bread and baked goods to local food pantries and soup kitchens.
Known for its artisan bread, the bakery-cafe is open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The hours are from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Sunday.
The location also features a drive-through option for takeout orders, an outdoor seating area, a fireplace and free Wi-Fi.
The restaurant offers a full catering menu. The menu features antibiotic-free chicken, whole grain bread, organic and all-natural ingredients.
"We're thrilled about the grand opening of our newest bakery-cafe and sharing the warmth of Panera with the Derry community," Peterson said. "As this becomes Panera's newest home, our cafe also looks forward to giving back to our customers and neighbors through our participation with the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Derry."
