DERRY — The town is getting ready to welcome its newest restaurant.
Panera Bread will officially open for business June 29 at its new location at 17 Manchester Road.
The bakery/cafe eatery is a franchisee of PR Restaurants LLC. It's part of the town's new Pinkerton Place retail area, which also includes the Woof Meow Family Pet Center and a Goodwill store that opened this spring.
"We're thrilled about the grand opening of our newest bakery/cafe and sharing the warmth of Panera with the Derry community," co-owner David Peterman said. "As this becomes Panera's newest home, our cafe also looks forward to giving back to our customer and neighbors." Peterman said that "giving back" would include participating with the Greater Derry Boys and Girls Club on community projects.
Panera has named the local club its Operation Dough/Nation partner.
Since its founding, Panera has been an active participant in the community.
At the end of every day, the cafe will donate its unsold bread and baked goods to local agencies that may have a need.
Panera first appeared before town boards last year and plans for the Route 28/Manchester Road widening project took shape.
The new business boosts town officials' hopes of seeing more economic development in that area.
A new Wal-Mart superstore is under construction nearby and is set to open in September.
Panera owns and franchises more than 1,500 businesses around the nation. PR Restaurants LLC operates 31 franchise locations in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Maine.
Derry Panera Bread will be open Monday through Saturday, from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday, from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
