Londonderry firm gets training grant
CONCORD — Gov. Maggie Hassan announced six companies will receive job training grants totaling $72,332.
The six companies contributed matching funds, bringing the total funds for training 226 workers in new skills to $144,663.
“I am pleased to announce September’s round of critical grants to help prepare workers for good jobs at New Hampshire’s growing businesses,” Hassan said. “New Hampshire’s Job Training Fund is an important resource that has helped train thousands of workers in new skills. By focusing on job training and higher education, we can continue developing a highly skilled workforce that will attract innovative businesses, help existing ones grow and create good jobs that can support a strong middle class.”
Metal Works of Londonderry will use a Job Training Fund grant of $1,400 for four employees to receive internal auditor training from New Hampshire Manufacturing Extension Project.
The Job Training Fund has awarded $6,398,831 in grants since October 2007, with employers contributing $9,031,833 for a total of $15,430,664 in new training for 19,230 New Hampshire workers. To the Job Training Fund should visit nhjobtrainingfund.org.
‘Cups for Kids’ supports CHaD
Cumberland Farms announced its 2013 Cups for Kids campaign has raised $100,706.
The amount raised is greater than the inaugural year in 2012, once again achieving the mission of helping provide medical care to children at hospitals across the Northeast.
In an aim to strengthen their support of the communities where their stores are located, Cumberland Farms launched its Pediatric Care Campaign last year with the emphasis toward benefitting programs that focus on children’s health. The five-month fundraiser, benefitting a different hospital each month, was rebranded as “Cups for Kids” this year.
Beginning in April, Cumberland Farms stores in the communities that serve the five participating hospitals donated 5cents per cup from its coffee and/or Chill Zone beverage sales to directly benefit the pediatric care programs. Working closely with each hospital, Cumberland Farms worked to identify the needs of their respective pediatric care units to have a profound impact on the meaningful programs that the hospitals provide in their communities. Once again, this ensured a successful fundraiser for each facility.
“To ensure a successful Cups for Kids campaign, we rely on help and support from the participating stores and our loyal Cumberland Farms customers,” said Ari Haseotes, Cumberland Farms retail president. “We’re grateful to all who helped us surpass last year’s fundraising efforts, and hope that Cups for Kids will have a positive impact on these hospitals, allowing them to continue to provide the highest level of care to their pediatric patients.”
Participating Cumberland Farms stores in New Hampshire and Vermont raised $17,000.80 for Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock, also known as CHaD.
