---- — DERRY — Rockingham Music School welcomes two new percussion instructors to its teaching staff in Derry.
John Medeiros Jr. and Jeff Samataro are now offering lessons at the school, 37 Crystal Ave.
The studio is now accepting new students for percussion, guitar, piano and voice instruction. The studio recently expanded its services to offering piano and vocal instruction along with professional studio and performance work. New students are accepted on a first-come first-serve basis based on availability.
“Many school programs such as jazz band are looking for students that are taking private lessons,” said Daniel Lofthouse, Rockingham Music School owner. “We can provide the rudiments and skill sets to help these students stay competitive for school and state competitions. Studies show that students who participate in music programs also have improved scholastic skills in areas like critical thinking, mathematics as well as increased creativity and problem-solving.
Medeiros is a professional musician and instructorand is an affiliate of American cymbal manufacturer, Zildjian.
Even with playing an average of 220 gigs a year and numerous recording sessions, Medeiros still shares his 20 years of teaching experience with younger musicians.
Samataro has a long career of working with outstanding percussion professionals. A New Hampshire native and Berklee College of Music graduate, he studied with many percussion professionals.
He has taught all over New Hampshire and Massachusetts, and has also offered music tutoring programs to underprivileged children in Jamaica.
“Music has affected my life in such a positive way, I want to pass that positivity and love onto the next generation of young percussionists,” he said.
Rockingham Music School has been a part of the Derry small business community for seven years, providing a wide range of music education including, weekly lessons, instrument purchases, and opportunities for students to collaborate.
