Deck those Derry storefronts
DERRY — Display your holiday spirit and help bring attention to your local business by decorating your establishment. Prizes will be awarded.
The Greater Derry Londonderry Chamber of Commerce is encouraging Derry businesses to decorate their storefronts with colorful lights, wreaths, scenery and ornaments. The more festive the town's businesses, the more inviting the community. Decorate anytime, but be ready for judging Wednesday, Nov. 20, at 9 a.m.
The judges have been selected from local businesses and organizations throughout the community and will include Susanne Bernier-Robinson, Derry TV; Chip Underhill, Pinkerton Academy; and Bonnie Roberts, Home Helpers (and incoming president of the GDL Chamber Board of Directors).
The first-place winner will receive a one-year Chamber membership. Second prize brings four complimentary tickets to the Chamber's wine-tasting event and third prize is a one-month business card ad on the Chamber's website.
Judging will be based on theme, including story line, scene or holiday spirit; creativity, including originality, creative use of lights and decorations, and materials used; appearance — color coordination, balance and overall attractiveness; and effort, the amount of time and energy put into preparation and presentation.
Winners will be announced at the Chamber's tree-lighting ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 7, at Burlington Self Storage, 4 Linlew Drive. The ceremony will begin at 5:30 p.m. before Santa distributes gifts to local children. Winners do not need to be present to win.
There is no cost to enter this contest, but registration is required. For more information, call the Chamber at 432-8205.
