---- — Benson Lumber and Hardware in Derry and Londonderry was named the 2014 New Hampshire Retailer of the year by the New Hampshire Retail Association.
Association president/CEO Nancy Kyle and Attorney General Joe Foster presented owners Brad Benson and his wife Linda, brother Grant and his wife Sue, and brother Scott and his wife Sarah with their award at the 48th Annual Member/Legislative Reception March 20 in Concord.
Each year, the NH Retail Association presents a retailer in the state with the Retailer of the Year Award. The award is presented to a retailer who has achieved significant success and growth in his or her business and provides excellent customer service. They support retail locally and at a state level, and their business makes significant contributions to their local community.
“This is a real, New Hampshire-based family business, having a milestone year, celebrating their 100th year in business. In 1913, George Washington Benson started with a simple vision, a dream to start his own business and offer lumber and coal to the local folks in the immediate community and surrounding towns,” Kyle said. “Today, 100 years and four generations later, the family continues his vision, with the same time-honored traditions.”
Today, Benson Lumber and Hardware is run by three brothers and their wives. They pride themselves on the fact that most of the staff are long-time employees, so customer service is key to their business. They are very community minded and involved in the Derry Londonderry Chamber of Commerce; the Derry Boys and Girls Club, Derry Frost Festival, Beautify Londonderry, local Cub and Boy Scouts, and DARE in Londonderry.
