DERRY, N.H. -- An early morning fire in a multi-family apartment building displaced seven people from their homes, but all of them escaped the blaze unharmed.
Firefighters were called to 45 Birch St. around 4:45 a.m. Thursday for a fire in an apartment, according to Derry fire Battalion Chief David Hoffman. When they arrived, there was smoke and fire showing, he said.
The seven people who were in the building were all able to get out, he said.
It took about an hour to get the fire under control, a process that was made more difficult by the frigid temperatures. But Hoffman said there were no serious problems that hindered the department's ability to fight the fire.
"It was the usual for a zero degree fire," he said.
Hoffman said it is too soon to say what might have caused the fire, which remains under investigation.
