CHESTER — Chester Selectman Mike Weider agreed to remain on as chairman of the five-person board Thursday night, after announcing earlier this month he wanted to give up the lead job.
Citing heavy workload and other conflicts, Weider told his fellow selectmen at a previous meeting on Nov. 15 he did not want to chair the committee anymore, but would remain on as a member.
At Thursday night's meeting, selectman Mark Harris, Jack Cannon, and Steph Landau offered words of encouragement and support for the work Weider does and said they appreciated all that went into leading the board.
"Your value to the community can't be matched," Harris said. "I think you perform a valuable role for the community. I would encourage you to reconsider."
Cannon thanked Weider for his hard work and his willingness to continue on as chair and offered help in any way.
"You have my commitment to help ease this burden," he said.
Weider's selectman term expires in May 2008.
