DERRY — An early morning fire destroyed a commercial woodworking and furniture business at 179 Rockingham Road.
Firefighters were called to Kindelan Woodworking at 4:30 a.m. Friday for a reported fire. When they arrived, there were heavy flames, and their main goal was to prevent the blaze from spreading to other nearby businesses, Battalion Chief David Hoffman said. There are used car lots on either side of the building, which is in the southern part of town, about a mile from the Windham town line.
The building did not have sprinklers, and it took firefighters from 11 departments to get the blaze under control. As of this morning, firefighters were still at the scene spraying foam on the smoldering remains of the building to keep the fire from starting back up.
The cause of the fire has not been determined, Hoffman said. No one was in the building at the time of the fire, and no one was injured fighting the blaze.
Kindelan Woodworking is a commercial woodworking and furniture business owned by Bob Hersey. According to the company's Web site, it is New Hampshire's largest supplier of custom built, finished and unfinished furniture. Hersey was not available for comment Friday morning.
